It's been an exciting couple of weeks here at TrailWorld. The Off-Road Motocycle Schools continue to be very popular and we have also just completed our first couple of Absolute Beginners Schools which went really well and the pupils loved it so much they all want to buy dirtbikes! With all that in mind we have added loads of new dates to our calendar for all our Schools right through to the end of November. Remember that you can still get the schools for just £199 despite the new pricing on our website - you just have to join our mailing list or buy a 6 month gift voucher!

We also had delivery of our new off-road Segways which means that TrailWorld can now operate these amazing and quirky machines anytime we want rather than hiring them in. Our first event with the Segways went extremely well and we are now going to improve the track and add a see-saw and a trials section - you won't get that anywhere else!

If that was not enough we have also taken delivery of our Archery equipment and had our first little play - I was the winner! Now we are all going off to get trained by the experts and it should all be ready for customers in the next few weeks. I have to say that, not having done archery before myself, that it's great fun and a good way of adding a bit of competition to your event with us.

The mobile climbing wall is going down a storm and we are getting plenty of outside bookings which is very encouraging. Everyone seems to love it (you won't get me up it though!).

TRAILWORLD TT (Terrific Tuesdays)

Summer is now upon us and we have decided to add some sunshine by offering an amazing new package at TrailWorld's off road activity centre. On selected Tuesday evenings (see below) we will be offering an hour long Quad and Segway taster session for the almost unbelieveable price of just £45 per person. These taster sessions are a real recession buster. The dates we are running this offer are as follows:

July: 12th and 26th.

August: 9th and 23rd.

September: 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th.

Session are run on the hour starting with the first session at 3 pm and the last session starting at 8pm (light permitting).

The Aldbury May Day Fair was a huge success with large crowds and fantastic weather. The new TrailWorld climbing wall was one of the most popular attractions with queues having to wait 45 minutes for their turn!

Before the fair opened Dave got Luke and his sister Emma to have a go so they could see what it was all about. In the video below Luke wore the goggle-cam which gives a great first hand view of what it's like to climb the wall.

We are elated to announce that the brand new Absolute Beginners Off Road School has been launched today with 4 dates initially pencilled in. This school is specifically aimed at people with little or no motorcycle experience at all. We will take you through learning how to use the gears and clutch and progress through to some basic off-road techniques. We aim to have you riding up and down hills, over rough terrain and more. The morning is dedicated to actually learning to ride a motorcycle which is a fantastic way of taking your first steps into this amazing 2-wheeled world - whether you decide off-road or on-road is your thing. It's also a great way of getting to grips with the basics on private land with no road traffic to contend with. The afternoon session takes the skills learned on to more demanding terrain.

Bob had his first go at towing the wall today as we were not sure how difficult it would be to get it in to TrailWorld - but he did it with flying colours! Anyway, the deal is being done right now and our first day operating the wall will be this coming Sunday 27th March at Old Albanian Rugby Football Club on Harpenden Road just outside St Albans. It's a great activity suitable for all ages from 6 upwards with 4 different sides to climb of varying difficulty. I will get some pictures of the wall when it is put up on Sunday and post on here.

We had a Trials & Tricks School for a few of the Green Lane Crew members and a couple of them did really well so Chris let them loose on one of the staff sections which are harder than the standard ones. Chris makes it look so easy though! If anyone has any doubts about how quick our electric motorcycles can be then this should put those reservations to rest! We have posted videos in the past that show the 'average' participant or total beginner riding them, which may have given the impression that they are not particularly capable machines. These electric off-road motorcycles from Swiss company Quantya are simply amazing and awesome fun for everyone, novice or expert - they have to be tried to be believed. I highly doubt that any petrol bike regardless of size would be any quicker around our circuit - I know I can't ride my 510cc Enduro bike around here anywhere near as quickly as this!

We all know how bad the economy is and how much fuel has gone up! Add the VAT increase and it amounts to quite a lot, in fact our costs have gone up around 15% since August 2010. We have not increased the price of our off-road motorcycle tours and schools for over 2 years now! It's tough but we are going to keep them frozen until May 31st 2011 - all we can hope is that fuel does not increase even more rapidly over the coming months. Beat the increase by booking now!

As it was a nice day and I needed to get out of the confines of my office I thought I would go up to our upper tracks to try and get some aerial video so that people can get a better idea of what is up there - some videos just make it look like a flat field but it is far from that. Most of the more challenging stuff has been dug 'in to' the land rather than above like many venues.

The first video below was taken with the standard camera on our AR Drone Quadracopter which is why it's not that great. I was really windy and I had little control of the flying camera so apologies for the jerky video!

I reverted to 'plan b' and simply walked around the place with my camera and get footage in a safer fashion! I hope it gives you a better idea of what it's like up there - in the current January conditions it's very slippy which makes it very challenging to ride on (or even trying to walk on!). To give you an idea of just how challenging it is I attempted to go up the hill around the edges of the circuit in our Land Rover 90 - it did not make it even with full diff-locks on!

If we can do it on trials bikes then why not on quads? We love coming up with new ideas and we think this one is pretty unique and very exciting for customers. We know that trials on a motorcycle is quite a niche market so wanted to come up with something similar for a wider audience that is fun, challenging and has an element of competition. Racing quads is a big no no due to insurance, health & safety and inexperienced riders thinking they can go around a corner flat out without the quad ending up on top of them! Trials on quads is a fantastic idea, even if I do say so myself!

Ok then, what is it all about?

We are going to design several 'sections' where the the rider will negotiate tight turns, steep drops, off-camber gates and even things like see-saws and perhaps even riding blind-folded! Some of these sections will have to be negotiated both forwards and backwards (in reverse gear!). Penalties will be given for failing certain obstacles such as hitting cones, not balancing for 5 seconds on the see-saw etc. The person or team with the lowest score wins. It's not against the clock as it is all about your riding skills. Some sections will be so steep you will probably be sliding down them on the brakes! As and when we have designed and tested more sections we will update our blog and the main website at www.trailworld.co.uk

This is going to simply be AWESOME and ideal for individuals, groups and corporate. If you have 2-6 of you we will pit you against each other and for bigger groups we will run in teams. I can't wait to get this one off the ground!

Here is a little taster of what we are thinking about - this is just me testing a few of our drops (I am totally on the brakes and it felt like I was going over the bars!).

Monday 3rd January 2011 saw the Gnomes first ride of the new year with Luke Pastrami out on some of the Home Counties lanes. Was pretty mucky out there with penty of those 'front end moments' when you feel like she's going to slip away from you - the only thing to do is press down on those bars and keep the throttle on! Was nice to shake the Christmas cobwebs off and made a change from riding around TrailWorld all the time. Have a look at the video below and then come join us with TrailWorld or the Green Lane Crew!
